Suckage

I suck at this. No...I really, really suck at this.

As many do at this time of year, I'm trying to decide what to do with this blog. I've never been one for journaling (it is too a word, I just used it) --oh, let's face, I pretty much hate to write. I haven't been travelling or doing anything share-worthy. Oh, well I'll continue to ponder.

As 2011 is now just a distant memory, let's review the high points...

  • Moved to a new house (don't get too excited, I'll be moving again in May -- no moss here)
  • Week of ice/snow...unheard of in Texas
  • Broken car to the tune of $2500 -- CHA-CHING
  • Turned 40
  • Spent two weeks in Hawaii (Maui, Oahu)
  • Started a new job
  • Saved a cat, lost a phone
  • **ETA** My pet rat died...don't judge!
That's about it. My life sucks (except for the Hawaii and new job thing). And the fact that no one reads here supports this statement. Oh, wait, no one reads here because I don't ever post. And we're back to I suck.

*while writing this, there is an episode of Hoarders on the TV...GROSS!*

Not Smart Enough to Own a Smartphone

Yesterday afternoon, I was making my typical commute home from work (did I mention I started a new job this week?). I was almost to my exit when I happened to notice something off to the side of the road. As I drove past it, I realized it was a young kitten, and it was panting hard. The temp was over 100, and I can't even imagine what it was on the asphalt. Oh, and all of this was taking place on the tollway with cars going over 70 mph!

Anyway, I couldn't just leave it there. Luckily I was in the far left lane and could easily pull over. I noticed that the lady behind me just stopped completely in the middle of the tollway because the kitten had started walking into traffic. I was able to grab the kitten from underneath her car, certain that it was on death's door. My main concern was heat stroke, so I went to my car to see if I had any water. Unfortunately, I didn't.

So, at this point you might be thinking...why are you telling me about a cat when your title is about a phone? Don't worry, I'm getting to that. As I went to look for the water, I put my iPhone on top of the car. Do you see where we're going here? Yep, I decided to just take the kitten to my house and assess it there. Without thinking, I shut the door, eased back into traffic and set off for home. I heard a thud, but still not a thought about the phone until I pulled into my garage. Ugh!!

Let me introduce you to my new iPhone, or as I like to call him, iCat! Actually, I just found a home for him tonight and will deliver him next weekend. And until further notice, don't try to call!!

Random Thoughts

As to the question at the top of the page...evidently, not very much!! I'm still trying to get into a blogging groove, but every time I come here, all of my witty dialogue goes out the door.

Speaking of going out the door -- I don't want to. People, it is hot outside. We're looking at breaking a record on Saturday with consecutive days above 100. I mean if we're going to suffer like this, we might as well get to break a record, right?

I went to the grocery store this morning to buy my brother's birthday present. His birthday was yesterday. I win "Sister of the Year" award, for sure. Anyway, I was using the self-check kiosk, but had to wait forever for the attendant to clear up something on my machine. Why? Because she was scanning someone else's entire basket of groceries AND putting in his money. Kind of defeats the purpose of self-check, doesn't it? I hate it when someone chooses to use the self-check and has absolutely NO.IDEA.HOW. TO.USE.IT!!

Sadly, that's all I got. How about showing some comment love?! Stay cool (literally and figuratively)!!

What I did on my summer vacation

I'm sitting here trying to figure out what to say. Knowing I need to say something because I need a new post. I got nothing! So, I'll bore you with some of my pics from my recent visit to the lovely state of Hawaii. This was my fourth trip over. It helps when you have family over there that you can stay with. This time I decided to stay 2 weeks...I had the time and last month I celebrated my 40th birthday. Oh yeah, my mom went with me. We stayed mainly on the island of Maui, but hopped over to Oahu for a couple of days. Like I said, 4th trip over -- 3rd time to Oahu. I had never visited Pearl Harbor, but my mom really wanted to go. So, we did. Here are some pics from our visit. And it ended up being way more interesting than I thought it would be. Good choice, Mom! Sorry...still learning how to post pictures. I will get better!

Blog Virgin

So, yeah...I've been tossing around the idea of starting a blog for a while now. Not sure that I have enough witty and/or profound thoughts to keep it going, but let's give it a go! Sometimes I'll post my rambling thoughts; sometimes I'll post as I traipse the world (ok, so mostly I travel to west Texas for work). Nonetheless, I hope you'll leave a comment and make a return visit!
